Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Claims Posted on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the first six games of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals injured. He was given 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
On the field, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
