Hurricane Melissa is predicted to strengthen into a uncommon highest-level storm as it turns toward the Caribbean island, delivering life-threatening sudden floods and rock falls.

This weather system, which recorded wind speeds of up to 195 km/h as of 06:00 GMT, is currently turning northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is anticipated to make landfall by midweek, as reported by weather experts.

Alerts of blackouts and disruption to utilities have been announced as Melissa produces up to thirty inches of rainfall and sea level surges as high as 13ft above typical tides. "Find safe refuge immediately," locals have been told.

The cyclone is the thirteenth hurricane in the ongoing Atlantic season, which normally finishes in November.

The nation's leader the official said: "I realize that there are countless citizens who are concerned, who are deeply troubled, and appropriately: concern is justified.

"Yet the optimal approach to manage anxiety and any nervousness and concern is to be prepared."

Residents are being advised to protect their properties with sandbags and plywood sheets, and to gather basic necessities.

Warnings are also active for parts of Haiti such as the capital, Port au Prince, the adjacent nation and Cuba's eastern region, where Melissa is projected to bring comparable impacts by the middle of next week.

Mudslides presently generated by the hurricane have resulted in two fatalities in Haiti, according to local authorities.

The hurricane is projected to pass over the island nation by midweek before traveling via the Caribbean archipelago and out into the Atlantic.
